It’s very easy to find a reason why the time isn’t right to
start something new, to begin your new diet, to stop smoking, to break up a bad
relationship, start a new business, quit the job that’s draining you. We all
have our reasons at hand when asked ‘why not now?’
Bottom-line is when you’re working on something important to
you, you will never feel completely ready. Partly because of the fear of
failing and partly because we are already too comfortable, not happy, but
comfortable in what we know and do.
It is completely normal to feel uncertain and often
unqualified when starting a new adventure, but no matter how much information
and talent you gather, it won’t make those feelings go away. There is always going
to be another obstacle in your way, there is always going to be another
important thing you have to do first.
Most people have the same starting point: no money,
resources or experience, but the difference is that some take the leap. Because
success is far more alluring for them.
At some point you have to take that first step into the
direction you desire. The fact that you want to try is enough, the rest you
will learn along the way. No matter how much you plan ahead, you can’t account
for every variable. The best way to learn is to do, make mistakes, adjust and
proceed.
Successful people start before they’re ready. If you wait around for the million-dollar idea to come to
you, then you need to have a very long breath. And chances are you already have
had one or several, but you didn’t even notice it because you were eating
Cheetos on the couch on a Wednesday afternoon. In order to jumpstart your brain,
you must set your intentions, you need to start doing, planning, making, creating,
failing, learning.
